Frey Group LLC is a proud third-generation family business with deep roots in Southern Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. Established in 1966, the company began with a foundation in farming, logging, and timber. In the 1980s, the Frey family saw an opportunity to repurpose the by-product of their timber operations by introducing bulk hardwood mulch—marking the beginning of a new chapter in the company’s evolution.
More than three decades later, Frey Group has grown into a trusted provider of high-quality landscape and horticultural products, offering a wide range of bagged bark mulches, gardening soils, and custom growing mixes. These products serve both home gardeners and professional growers, including greenhouse and nursery operations across the region.
Today, members of the Frey family remain actively involved in the business, ensuring that the values of hard work, quality, and customer care continue to guide every aspect of the operation. Their hands-on leadership and dedication to innovation help preserve the legacy of the company while adapting to the evolving needs of the industry.
In 2017, Frey Group joined forces with Coast of Maine Brands LLC, a partnership that significantly expanded our product offerings. Through this merger, we are proud to distribute the premium Coast of Maine Organic Products line, including organic soils, fertilizers, mulches, and amendments, directly from our Lancaster County facility. This allows us to offer our customers the convenience and value of a comprehensive product portfolio, ranging from economical and value-priced options to premium organic selections and professional-grade growing mixes—all delivered together on a single truck.

Coast of Maine Organic Products has developed a unique and very distinctive line of attractively packaged compost-based natural and organic soils, mulches and fertilizers sold through local retailers. Those same beliefs underpin our 14-year partnership with Master Nursery Garden Centers, a 550 member national co-op, and the expansion of their Bumper Crop line of soils and fertilizers.
